Primrose Court Warmblood Stud & Training Yard

ABOUT

At Primrose Court we are dedicated to breeding and producing High Performance Horses that will be well conformed and sound both in mind and limbs and that have the potential to excel in any given Olympic discipline. Our horses and modern in type, easy and forward thinking, active, athletic performers as well as much loved members of the family.

Primrose Court was established in 1999 back in the Cotswolds, England, by myself predominantly breeding Warmblood Sport Ponies and High Performance Horses and the odd Thoroughbred too.

In 2004 myself along with my partner Ali, emigrated to Western Australia and in early 2005 I brought over my then schoolmaster Highfield Vivaldi a beautiful Trakehner stallion

Our stud goals is to produce a select number of International quality foals each year that will have the potential to excel in any given Olympic discipline and that are also a pleasure to own and ride

I combine the most proven of both Australian and European bloodlines to breed top class performers with many of our foals carry a high percentage of Trakehner genetics as I believe this is a fabulous breed to outcross with

The Trakehner has for many years now, been used to enhance, lighten and improve most of the Warmblood breeds we see today. As a breed themselves they are fast becoming the warmblood of the 12st Centuary especially in Horse Trails. At the recent London Games now fewer than 5 Trakehner bred horses competed and a similar number competed in the Dressage too

The actual history of the breed is a long one and full of amazing facts and stories. One can read about this rich past on any of the Trakehner Breed Society sites available on the internet but a relatively easy one to understand is actually from the New Zealand website and here is the link...it really is a wonderful and fascinating story of the oldest warmblood breed around so please take time to have a read.

The Broodmare base is small but ever so strong. This year I don't think I've had such a diverse mix of leading European champions.

Each year we constantly strive to breed up from the original mare selection with the aim of injecting more modern, influential International lines that will in turn produce better and better foals that could easily hold their own in European company

This obviously is a time consuming project if like myself you have ot go it the hard way and breed them yourself, but we feel it imperative

This does take time, if like me you have to do it the hard and long way and breed them yourself, but we feel is imperative if you are striving for the best which I am. At present we stand three Warmblood stallions at Primrose Court stud .

Anna's training-
Having worked and trained at the internationally renowned "Catherston Stud”, home to the Dressage guru of her day Jennie Loriston-Clarke, I gained a new found love for Dressage and everything that goes with it. I was also given superb exposure to many of the UK Native pony breeds and it was from this that I found my strong passion for Sport Ponies, breeding and training them began.
Jennie Loriston-Clarke was (and still) is a huge ambassador for the Natives Breeds of England and the now more refined competitive British Sport Pony. The highly influential British Riding Pony stallion Catherston Nightsafe appears in the vast amount of German Riding pony lines we see today competing at the very top in Europe and the UK. This little pony had a huge influence on the sport.
My own interest for horse husbandry also began at Catherston and I owe much of my experience and learnt knowledge from my time spent at Catherston Stud.

After I left Catherston I spent a few years in Wales riding and training for various people. I was offered a job for the world renowned Derwen Stud in Aberystwyth but decided to accept a different job working with Hunters in the Cotswold's.

So off I went having no idea what I was about to do or get myself in for!

I enjoyed it so much I stayed working with the Hunters for various owners for many years. I loved that way of life and made some terrific friends along the way.
I
t was blummin hard work though and certainly not for the faint hearted but  I gained so much valuable knowledge about the entire Hunt scene and also a new found interest of Jump Racing too.

When not working with the hunters, I worked for various other people including International Eventers and also a Show jumper. I got all sorts of exposure to a good number of different disciplines learning a lot from each one. I have been very lucky in that respect to have had a chance of seeing so many horse industry’s first hand and being heavily involved in each one.

Towards the end of my time in the Cotswold's  prior to us moving to Australia, I had been running my own professional Hunting and Training Yard for 2 years and had started to take in horses and pony’s for breaking and schooling and had also started to breed them as well. I produced two colts for the British Sports Pony Stud Book Stallion Grading and they both passed with flying colours. It was a lot of fun

I somehow had time to compete lightly on my then Trakehner gelding and we made it to the Novice Regionals which was quite fun! I had also started competing on my friends sports ponies and was doing quite well against the big guys in Open Dressage as well as the odd day out hunting too

The delightful Trakehner stallion Highfield Vivaldi and myself competing in the UK

The Welsh C stallion Hawlings Willows Flyte and myself in the UK

Proof that good things come in small packages as this day we beat Carl Hester and many other bigger horses and ponies .He stood just 13.2hh
